On Call Health - Women and Cancer
Dr. Lisa Bazzett, a Gynecologic Oncologist from Ochsner Hospital, discussed several issues dealing with women and the subject of cancer. Bazzett explained the difference between the medical procedure of a "radical hysterectomy" and what is called "uterine sparing" surgery. The uterine sparing surgery process is sometimes for younger women still in child bearing years and tries to save the uterus to allow them to possibly give birth. The doctor also explained how the "Davinci Robotic System" works. "It's called a robotic system but it's not actually the robot doing the surgery." she said. "the surgeon still does and perfoms the surgey." The Davinci Robotic System is one of the newer laparoscopic surgery systems that uses the minimally invasive technique of a camera at the end of a thin, lighted tube.

2057: "The Body" 1-4 [Discovery Channel]
2057 is a Discovery Channel television program hosted by theoretical physicist Michio Kaku. It premiered on January 28, 2007 and attempts to predict what the world will be like in 50 years based on current trends. The show takes the form of a docu-drama with three separate episodes, each having informative stories ingrained into the plot. The Body The first episode, "The Body", predicts medical advances from robotic surgery to flying ambulances. The shows presentation plot shows a man falling out of a window on to the street below, and being cared for in a futuristic hospital. The surgeons discover that his out of date artificial heart has been damaged in the three-story fall. A heart that is completely compatible with the patient is "printed" using an ingenious device that combines the biology of building new organs and the science of computer printers. ____________ ....But then it gets... well, "Orwellian" is not sufficient, but to think that this level of invasiveness would be required to have *insurance* seems insane and somewhat frightening. __________________ Before the surgery can take place, the hospital finds an abnormality in his urine samples. The samples that were taken from the hospital did not match the ones that the toilet in his home analyzed that morning. The man was previously insured with a premium policy, which was canceled when the hospital discovered he had been using clean urine samples to hide the fact that he had been drinking. Insurance policies generally raise premiums when they discover clients use alcohol, and people hide this fact with clean urine samples. Once the insurance company analyzes the data and discovers that the patient tried to essentially scam them, his policy is immediately dropped. He is placed in the non-insured ward of the hospital, and his expensive surgery is canceled. The only person to come to his aid is a crafty female surgeon who performs the operation anyway. By tricking the system into thinking that a deceased patient with a premium policy is still alive, she is able to perform the surgery using the deceased patient's insurance policy. She then tells the system that the deceased patient died two days later, making it look like they died on the operating table during the surgery that she actually performed on the fall victim.

Obama~Today is my Day~feat Coloria
Congratulations President and First Lady elect Barack and Michelle Obama~ and now for something completely different~In the original movie, a flying saucer orbits Earth, and lands in Washington, DC, on the Mall. Klaatu (Michael Rennie) steps out and is shot by a jumpy soldier. Gort (Lock Martin), an indestructible robot steps out of the spacecraft and proceeds to melt all the weapons, including tanks. Later, the Earth comes to realize that Gort has used very little of his power to make this happen. While lying on the ground, Klaatu orders Gort to stop, and is then taken by the military to a hospital from which he later escapes in order to learn more about this planet called Earth and its human inhabitants. He meets Helen Benson (Patricia Neal) and her son Billy (Billy Gray); takes Klaatu on a tour of Washington, DC; and finally stops in front of the Lincoln Memorial. Klaatu reads the words uttered by Lincoln many years ago and realizes that there might be hope for Earth. When they begin to suspect the alien man, he reveals himself, along with the news that Gort is a member of a race of super-robot enforcers invented to keep the peace of the galaxy and will destroy the Earth if provoked. Klaatu is pursued and shot and killed by the military. Before Klaatu dies, he tells Helen to go to Gort, and say the words "Klaatu barada nikto." If she does not, Klaatu tells her Gort will destroy the Earth. Helen makes her way to the ship and finds Gort. As the robot moves towards her, she repeats the phrase over and over. The robot picks her up and takes her into the ship. It then retrieves Klaatu's body and, through their alien science, resurrects Klaatu. The 2008 remake about an alien and his indestructible robot will star Keanu Reeves as Klaatu, Jennifer Connelly as Helen Benson, Jaden Smith as Jacob, and Kathy Bates. Gort has not been cast at this time and will most likely be created using SFX. The remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still will supposedly remain true to the original movie. However, there is a chance the remake will more likely remain true to the short story upon which the 1951 movie is based. In either case, the alien weaponry seems to have been upgraded. In addition to a city going dark, and a very brief look at the new Gort, the film trailer shows a cloud of black smoke, capable of rapid movement and disintegrating matter on contact. In the 1951 movie, Gort is described as one of a race of robots created by the planets to maintain peace throughout the galaxy. If the 2008 remake follows "Farewell to the Master," the short story by Harry Bates upon which the 1951 movie is based will be used for the ending, which will not be revealed here.

Med Bot Takes an Elevator
This is a video my mom took of the robots that she has at work- she works for a VA hospital (Veteran's Affairs, yes?) They deliver medications to the rooms, and can hail elevators on their own, even dock themselves to charge. Also, they can apparently sense your presence. Note how it tells my mom to 'please stand aside.' I'm not entirely sure if this is supposed to be classified information or something, but I find it incredibly creepy/awesome at the same time. D8 A strange glimpse into the future, perhaps.

d on this show. A group of jungle animals sing "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", but are interrupted when the lionin question chases them off the set for disturbing his rest. The closing number is a jazz number performed by Billy Crystal and the entire Muppets Tonight cast, when Billy's all-star band doesn't turn up- we learn that this is because Bobo won't let them in, even though they include President Clinton, President Yeltzin, and even Queen Elizabeth II. 4. John Goodman- John Goodman wants a relaxing show, but any hope of that goes out of the window when Andy and Randy Pig assign themselves to be his personal slaves, after he saves them from being electrocuted. The first episode of "Tales From The Vet", sees Dr. Phil Van Neuter, explaining in song (preferably one by Thomas Dolby) how he met his wife, Composta Heap, sister of his assistant, Mulch. The song he sings is "She Blinded Me With Science" by Thomas Dolby. Clifford rolls a clip of John Goodman in a Muppet documentary about the first landing on the moon, called "The Lunar-Mooners", with Miss Piggy and Fozzie Bear. Later, Andy and Randy Pig give John Goodman a scalp massage using glue, and he finally ends up in a truckload of mousetraps, and in hospital. 5. Cindy Crawford- The glamorous supermodel steals Bobo's heart. Rizzo tries unsuccessfully to help him win her. The show also includes a clip from "The Kermit The Frog Club", with a young Cindy as one of the Frogketeers, and an episode of Swift Wits, the fastest game show on TV- the two over-enthusiastic contestants refuse to listen to the host's clues to help them identify the mystery object, and consequently lose the game- Winky, a happy little Beaver, loses his life, as he is devoured by Carl, the Big Mean Bunny. Finally, Bobo interrupts Kermit and Cindy's closing number- "I Remember It Well" from the musical, Gigi-, and finally wins Cindy's heart, and they finish the show in grand style, dancing the tango. 6. Tony Bennett- Guest star Tony Bennet appears on a show within a show, hosted by Johnny Fiama. Tony wants to sing a duet with Johnny, who has idolised him for years, but Johnny is overcome with nerves and faints. Johnny is in a terrible mood afterwards, and cruelly sends his assistant, Sal the Monkey, packing. Sal and Tony discuss how they can make Johnny feel better, and Sal dreams up an idea. Johnny has constructed his own Tony Bennet robot. Unbeknown to Johnny, Sal and Tony remove the robot from its case and Tony stands in its place. Johnny turns the robot on to sing with it instead, and finds himself fulfilling his lifelong dream- a duet with the REAL Tony Bennett! They end the show with "Shakin' The Blues Away". 7. Sandra Bullock Guest star Sandra Bullock. A mad bomber man threatens to bomb the theater unless the Muppets Tonight's rating is 50 or higher. So Andy, Randy, Rizzo, Clifford, and Sandra try to keep the rating up and track the bomber down. They barely manage to keep the ratings up. After the demise of two of their most popular acts, Clifford and Rizzo resort to a series of lower profile acts- Frankie the Yak is pulled from the stage thirty seconds into his polka number, and Johnny Fiama's rendition of "Mack The Knife" is interrupted when a shark charges onto the set, chases him off the stage. Seymour the Elephant and Pepe the Prawn attempt to salvage the situation with a vaudeville comedy number, but no-one in the audience gets the joke. They attempt to explain it usig visual aids, but are unsuccessful, and resort to singing the song again- they are dragged off the stage halfway through. Surprisinly, Andy and Randy capture the mad bomber, and, more surprising, it turned out it was Sandra herself, being nervous about the show. In the end, she ends up playing in a one man band after the show. This episode was originally set to air on ABC on April 19, 1996, but executives pulled the episode from TGIF's lineup at the last minute so as not to coincide with the 1st anniversary of the Oklahoma City Bombing. The episode would have aired that day had it not been about someone making a bomb threat. The episode was reaired in its entirety two months later. 8. Jason Alexander- Gonzo is very excited that his old school chum, Jason Alexander, is starring on the Muppet Show. They agree to perform a medley from their hit musical, "Bats", but things don't go according to plan during the warm-up, and they end up falling out. Jason refuses to work with Gonzo ever again, but Clifford, after a LOT of effort, finally manages to persuade him to reconsider- although even then, he only agrees in order to get "this stupid elephant" (Seymour) off his back! The show also featured a parody of "Agatha Christie's Poirot", with Jason in the title role, and the Muppets mistaking him for Hercules,
